Classification of Digital computer based on size, performance and capability.
computer are divided into classes as follows
- Mainframe computer
- Super computer
- Mini computer
- Personal computer or micro computer.
Mainframe computer:
mainframe computer are large according to their size but have a large storage capacity and high performance counted due to its high speed processing.
Mainframe computer can support a large amount of users simultaneously giving input, output and storage. Hundreds or thousands of terminals are used for multiple users transaction
on ATMs also. Most of the useful purpose of mainframe computer is the Electronic-Commerce over the internet.

Super computer:
Super computers are the most powerful computers.
The super computers are used for the large scientific and
research laboratories as well as the government organizations have extra-ordinary
demand for processing data which required terrific processing speed, memory and
other services which may not be provided with any other category to meet their
needs.Supercomputer
processing speeds are measured in floating point operations per second, or FLOPS.
An example of a floating point operation is the calculation of mathematical
equations in real numbers.
Mini computer:
Mini computers are smaller than mainframes, both in
size and other facilities such as speed, storage capacity and other services but larger than micro-computers or Personal Computers
They are versatile that they can be fitted where ever they are needed.
Micro computer/Personal computer:
Micro computers are often called Personal Computers (PCs). In the Central Processing Unit the micro computers have microprocessors to process the instructions.
While micro computers supports only one user at a time rather than the Mainframe computers, super computers and mini computers.
